The EPC Workshop

As a design student, I had the fascinating opportunity to research and experiment with various materials and their attachment processes by participating in the EPC workshop titled "Assemblage random." The workshop's main idea was to build something out of various materials by gluing, interlocking, screwing, bolting etc. The idea was to inspire pupils to stretch the limits of their imagination and make novel uses of the resources.

In order to create our final product, we randomly selected three materials. The materials I choose to work with were PLY, MDF, and little wooden branch which I found near the university. Since I felt that they provided me the most creative freedom in terms of their physical characteristics and usability.

The brainstorming and sketching out of potential product concepts were the first step of the session. I took some time to investigate the many forms and shapes the materials I selected may take. As soon as I had a general idea of what I wanted to make, I began to play about with the attachment methods. The MDF parts were combined with interlocking and glue, and the wooden branches were fastened to the PLY foundation using screws and bolts.

All throughout workshop, I found that I was always tweaking and improving my final work. I was intrigued by the diverse characteristics of each component and enjoyed learning about how they interacted with one another. The session was a worthwhile educational experience for me since I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the relevance of material selection and the attachment procedures utilized for making items.

Overall, the EPC workshop "Assemblage random" provided me with a wonderful opportunity to examine my creativity and conduct experiments with various materials and attachment techniques. I gained a deeper comprehension of how easily different materials can be adapted and how they can result in original, imaginative designs. Overall, I had a great experience at the workshop, and I'll remember it for the rest of my artistic career.
